The Missing Voter Project was launched in 2004 to find and mobilize new and infrequent voters in South Carolina. Unlike other voter registration drives, the nonpartisan MVP is ongoing and targets citizens in historically under-represented communities.
We are growing an informed electorate with the power to mobilize around public policies critical to young people, working families, and communities of color in the Palmetto State. The MVP is a homegrown, grassroots campaign built one voter at a time.
To keep volunteers safe during the pandemic, we have retooled our organizing tactics. Rather than going into neighborhoods, we are now using phones and computers to reach, register, and engage nonvoters.
Over the summer, MVP is focused on Fairfield and Saluda counties. In a unique strategy, we are training young Black voters to reach their peers who, in turn, will mobilize their families and friends. In the fall, we will expand the campaign statewide.
